This Wednesday, March 5th is Ash Wednesday. While it is not a Holy Day of Obligation, the Church encourages us to attend Mass. Ashes will be distributed during all Masses
FASTING. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. Fasting means eating only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or in the evening – depending on when a person chooses to eat the main or full meal.
ABSTINENCE. On Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent, Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from eating meat.
Beginning March 5th, Ash Wednesday and throughout Lent, we will offer Confessions from 6:15-7:15 followed by Mass at 7:30 pm on Wednesday’s.
On Friday’s we will offer Stations of the Cross after the 9:00 daily Mass and again at 7:30 pm.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE (PAS) BILL IS BACK AGAIN!
The Maryland General Assembly has once again introduced a bill to approve physician assisted suicide in Maryland. This is the eighth attempt to pass this bill. The bill is titled End of Life Option Act, SB 926/HB1328. A Senate hearing is scheduled for March 5, 2025. Physician Assisted Suicide is opposed by physicians and disability rights advocates. PAS is wrong for many reasons:
-Violates medical ethics to save lives and do no harm
-Makes people feel like a burden
-Lacks accountability for lethal, addictive drugs
-Sends the message that suicide is okay
-Leaves vulnerable people at risk
There will be information on Physician Assisted Suicide at all the church entrances. Please take the time to educate yourselves about this bill so we can let our legislators know that we oppose this legislation. We were shocked to learn via EWTN that 50% of struggling pregnant mothers that have abortions are in their 20's and that 60% of those having abortions have one or more children. We can help these struggling mothers make the right decision by supplying them with the items they so desperately need. Please visit our Website for more information about the items needed. Women volunteers are urgently needed to assist these mothers. This includes keeping in touch with them via text, phone, or e-mail during their pregnancy; bringing them needed items, such as diapers, baby clothes, formula, etc., that are provided by the project; and praying for them. The average time commitment is 15 minutes or less per week. Men are also needed to set up cribs or to pick up donations once or twice per month. Join our volunteer team members so that we can help the more than 370 struggling moms and their families now being assisted. The Federal Association of the Order of Malta cordially invites the sick, disabled, and elderly of the Archdiocese to receive the Sacrament of Anointing at the 15th annual Lourdes Anointing Mass on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Potomac (9200 Kentsdale Dr., Potomac, MD 20854). Our Lady of Mercy is completely accessible for mobility aids and there is plenty of free parking. Members of the Order of Malta will be present to help people throughout the morning.
There will be an anointing and a blessing with Lourdes water for the sick, disabled and the elderly in attendance.
